Unknown gunmen shot 73yr old white cap chief dead in his home

Unidentified gunmen yesterday Thursday February 7th shot dead a prominent Lagos white cap chief, 73 year old Onimole of Lagos, Chief Kayode Adeshina, at his Onimole Palace, Iga Iduganran Street, Isale Eko on the Island. Two gunmen were said to have scaled his fence at 3 am, robbed the home, and shot the chief dead after he told the gunmen he didn't have any money at home, according to people in the home. After the killing, the gunmen locked the chief up in his room and fled.

The Onimole was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead. The chief's corpse has been deposited in the mortuary while the police are investigating the murder.

Farouk Lawan, Boniface Emenalo granted bail

Exactly a week after they were arrested and held in prison for collecting N93million bribe from Femi Otedola to remove his company, Zenon Oil, from the list of indicted companies, Farouk Lawan and Boniface Emenalo were this morning granted bail by an Abuja High Court.

The Judge granted the two men bail on the sum of N10 million and asked them to relinquish their international passports to the court. They are only allowed to travel out of the country with the court's permission. The case has been fixed for April 10 and 17 for hearing.

A shocking video emerged on Monday February 4th of a woman going on a rant to patients in a hospital waiting room. The two-minute clip, filmed on Saturday night at Ipswich Hospital in Suffolk, saw the woman shout abuse at Nigerian student Gina Thompson, 23 (pictured above), and her 21-year-old Spanish friend.

The woman asked them ‘where do you come from’ before saying: ‘You're coming over here and you're pleading poverty. We are paying taxes you a***holes and we are going down in this crisis.

The incident took place at 7:30pm in the hospital’s accident and emergency department waiting room, where Gina had gone with her friend who had sprained her ankle playing sport. Gina, from Port Harcourt, Nigeria, is a film and media student at University Campus Suffolk and has been in the UK for two years, while her friend from Seville, Spain, arrived last September.

Boy axed father to death over fifth wedding

A teenage boy axed his father to death in India after learning that he was to marry for a fifth time, reports said Friday.

The 62-year-old was attacked by his 15-year-old son on Tuesday at his home in Palghar town, about 120 kilometers (75 miles) north of Mumbai, senior police inspector A.J. Sindkar told the Press Trust of India news agency.

The boy was angered that his father who has been divorced three times and widowed once  planned to tie the knot again soon, threatening the youngster’s inheritance prospects, police said.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is being held on remand after being charged with murder.

D’Banj Set to Perform at 2013 AFCON Closing Ceremony

Nigerian music artist D’banj, whose real name is Dapo Daniel Oyebanjo is set to perform at the closing ceremony of the 2013 AFCON event.

D’banj will perform his popular motivational song “Top of the World” at the AFCON closing ceremony at National Stadium in Crown Mines on Sunday evening, February 10.

According to sources, he will share the stage with other popular music acts including Kelly Khumalo, Thembisile Ntaka, Zonke Dikana, and Micasa.

'El-Rufai’s book is a collection of fiction' - Atiku Abubakar

 Former FCT minister Mallam El-Rufai wrote a memoir titled The Accidental Public Servant which was unveiled in Abuja today, and in the book he criticized a few politicians...one of them former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar. In the book, El-Rufai described Atiku as a corrupt power hungry politician and alleged that he (El-Rufai) had almost resigned as the former Director General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) because of persistent pressure and interference by Atiku, who was then the Chairman of the National Council on Privatization

Atiku has reacted to the content of the book, calling it a collection of fiction and exaggeration.

It amazes me that El Rufai can pass off fiction for self-gratification at the expense of truth as a book. El-Rufai's attack on my person is to say the least not surprising considering that this is the same man who has notoriety for disparaging religions and their icons, including lately Jesus Christ.

Meet America's longest married couple. 80 years and counting...

John (101) and Ann Betar (97) of Fairfield, Connecticut, tied the knot on Nov. 25, 1932. They've been happily married for over 80 years now. Together they have five children, 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. They have been named the longest married couple in the U.S.

John and Ann Betar told ABC News that they considered themselves "blessed."

"We are very fortunate. It can be repeated and repeated," Ann, 97, said "It is unconditional love and understanding. We have had that. We consider it a blessing."

They said their secret to so many happy years together is simple: compromise and don't hold a grudge.

After he was suspended for his unsatisfactory performance, Tunisian referee Slim Jdidi has admitted in his match report that he made a mistake by giving Burkina Faso’s Jonathan Pitroipa his marching orders in a semifinal clash against Ghana on Wednesday night.

Jdidi’s report has given the African federation (Caf) a power to overturn the decision taken by the referee. Pitriopa will be available for the 2013 Afcon final against Nigeria on Sunday after his second yellow card was rescinded by Caf.

Many Nigerians in the Yoruba tribe where I am from, disgustingly alter the spellings of their names to horrible proportions.

These beautiful African names are defaced due to lack of self-esteem. I reported 10 last week on FB and they were told to produce ID before their pages could be re-opened. They got mad at me. I clearly warned them beforehand. Even ppl with other fake nicknames need to be reported if you see them without a real name. I don't see this trend in other tribes in Nigeria. #SMH

Great news for Manchester United fans! Michael Carrick has agreed a new long-term contract at the club

Manchester United has reached an agreement in principal with Michael Carrick for the midfielder to sign a new two-year contract at the end of the season.

The former Tottenham man will be rewarded for his fine form this campaign with a deal worth £80,000-a-week that could include the option of a further year extension.

Goal.com revealed last month that United were planning to extend Carrick’s existing deal, which expires in 2014, and they will now formalise their offer for the 31-year-old in the summer.

“It’s more or less agreed in principal, the talks have been very easy because the player is very keen to stay at United,” an Old Trafford source told Goal.com. “There has been some interest from other clubs but nobody is anticipating any problems and he will sign a new deal in the summer.”

Controversy trails expulsion of 28 Redeemers University students

The expulsion of 28 students by Redeemer University for allegedly failing drug tests has sparked a big row.  The tests were conducted last November for 42 students, who were asked to go for “routine tests”.

After resumption this year, some of them were told that they “tested positive” and last Friday, some of those who “tested positive” got expulsion letters; others got theirs on Monday.

The institution’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Adetunji Adeleye, said the decision was taken in line with the school’s values and philosophy “to raise godly children”, but the students are alleging unfairness.

Exactly 141 days after Governor Sullivan Chime left the Enugu State Government House for what government officials termed “consolidated leave,” the governor yesterday returned to the country through Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

Though, throughout the period the governor stayed away, his aides had insisted that he was on vacation, recent developments revealed that the governor was actually ill as attested to by governors Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom); Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers) and Gabriel Suswan (Benue), who visited him in London to wish him quick recovery. True to the claims by the three colleagues of Chime that he would soon return, he touched down in Abuja yesterday and is expected in Enugu today, where a reception would be staged for him in late afternoon.

Ezu River corpses: Victims were our members – MASSOB

Following the startling discovery of over 30 bodies found floating on Ezu River, the boundary between Anambra and Enugu states, the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has revealed that the victims were their members arrested by security agencies in different parts of the state last year but were never released nor charged to court.

According to MASSOB Director of Information, Mr Uchenna Madu, the corpses found floating on Ezu River in Amansea community were MASSOB members, who were arrested in the state and secretly executed by the security agents without proper trial to cover their tracks.

Madu said: “MASSOB with deep sense of grief and sorrow wishes to inform Mr. Ban Ki Moon (UN Secretary General), President Goodluck Jonathan, US president, Barrack Obama, United Nations Human Rights Commission (UNHRC) and Amnesty International about the gruesome murder of MASSOB members by the Special Anti-Robbery Squared SARS, of Nigeria Police Force, Awkuzu Anambra State.”

Police Parades Suspected Murderers of Former Dep. Governor’s Aide

Relations officer Mr Vitalis Onugu has revealed the identities of the suspected murderers of the Former Director Of Protocol to Imo Deputy Governor, Laz Anyanwu.

Two men Udoka Ibe from Ikeduru Local Government and Chigaemezu Onyewenu from Mbaitoli Local Government both from Imo State have been nabbed by the Police and identified as the killers of the Late Mr Laz Anyanwu former director of protocol to the deputy Governor of Imo State, Jude Agbaso.

Mr. Laz Anyanwu was declared missing Saturday, January 12 and his mutilated body was later found at Orodo, Mbaitoli local council area of Imo State.

PDP chieftain murdered in Nsukka

A PDP chieftain, Mr Ejike Onah, popularly called `Papa Nsukka’ has been murdered in his Agbani Nguru Community in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State.

An eye witness said  in Nsukka on Tuesday.

He said that some yet-be -dentified persons visited the deceased on Sunday night and inflicted machete cut on his head and shoulder, and fled.

“Some members of his family raised an alarm that attracted villagers who rushed him to St Michel’s Hospital at Obollo Road, Nsukka,’’ the eyewitness, who sought anonymity, said.

Abuja President Goodluck Jonathan has told the leadership of the National Assembly that he will not sign the 2013 budget.

The leadership of the Senate, that of House of Representatives and officials of Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government (MDAs) will meet at 2pm today to reconcile faulty and bogus allocations in the budget.

The meeting will hold at the Senate complex. The N4.987 trillion budget was passed by both chambers of the federal legislature on December 19, 2012. It was transmitted to the President for assent on January 14, this year.

20-Year-Old Mother Burned Alive After Being Accused of Witchcraft

A young mother was tossed screaming on to a pyre of tyres and burned alive after being accused of killing a neighbour’s six-year-old son with sorcery.

Kepari Leniata, 20, ‘confessed’ after she was dragged from her hut, stripped naked and tortured with white-hot iron rods.

She was then dragged to a local rubbish dump, doused in petrol and, with hands and feet bound, thrown on a fire of burning tyres. As the mother-of-two screamed in agony, more petrol-soaked tyres were thrown on top of her.

Aviation Minister’s Cargo Perishable Initiative, the Margaret Ekpo International Airport, Calabar has been designated as one of the nation’s Agro-Perishable cargo airports.

This was disclosed by the Director, Cargo Development, Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, Mr. Rowland Ofule during a visit to the Cross River State Governor’s office in Calabar, where he was received by the state Acting Governor, Mr. Efiok Cobham.

Mr. Roland remarked that over the years, local farmers have faced the challenge of access to markets, adding that the initiative will allay their fears and encourage them to be more productive thereby boosting the economy of the state and the nation at large.

Court strikes out case against 'Facebook lover' accused of attempted rape

A Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Wednesday struck out a case of attempted rape against Arthur Obiora for “want of diligent prosecution”.

Obiora, 26, was arraigned on Nov. 9, 2012, over an alleged attempt to rape one Nkiruka Akabuogu at 1004 Flats, Victoria Island, Lagos.

He faced a three-count charge of threat to life, attempted rape and causing bodily harm to 21-year-old Akabuogu. Obiora, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

If information reaching me from the know is correct, then rapper Ikechukwu and his model/beauty specialist fiancée, beautiful Sarah Ofili have called it quits...again! The couple who got engaged in October 2011 after dating off and on for many years separated late last year. Sources said they separated last November/December.

Information about their breakup was made known after a blogger posted picture of Ikechukwu in a bathroom bod a few days back and mentioned Sarah Ofili. And people also close to the love birds confirmed they have gone their separate ways.

3 Nigerian brothers charged in the December kidnapping, rape of 15-year-old girl

Three Nigerian-born brothers have been accused of kidnapping and raping a 15-year-old girl in December. The brothers Aziz Animashaun, 22 (left), Isiaka Animashaun, 25 (centre), and Taiwo Animashaun, 26 (right), were charged with aggravated criminal assault and kidnapping in connection with the crime police said happened on Dec. 21.

Prosecutors said during Sunday January 3rd bond court that the men were among a total of five to six attackers, the rest of whom have not been charged.

The brothers live on the South Side of Chicago but were born in Nigeria, according to court documents. Documents show they live in the 500 block of East 83rd Street in Chatham, about a block away from where police said the girl was kidnapped.
