EFCC Arrests 24-year-old Currency Courier Trying to Export N1b Cash out of Nigeria

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) two days ago arrested one Abubakar Tijani Sheriff, whom it described as a bulk currency smuggler, as he attempted to smuggle $7million out of the country. The EFCC said in a statement yesterday that Sheriff, 24, was arrested at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos en route Dubai, United Arab Emirates, as he boarded his flight.


Following his arrest, he declared that he had a total sum of $4.5million on him but thorough screening and search showed that he was actually carrying $7,049,444, the commission said.  Sheriff then confessed that he was a courier for 20 individuals who hired him to courier the money for them to Dubai.

Qatar Airline Makes Emergency Landing in Lagos

Qatar Airways Boeing 592 flying from Doha to Lagos made an emergency landing today at Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos. The pilots called Nigeria Aeronautics in Lagos when they discovered that one of the tyres had low pressure in midair making landing difficult. As a result, they arranged for emergency precaution and a vehicle to tow the plane from the runway to the gate.

More than 95% of the passengers didn’t even know about it until the plane landed and they saw firefighters and emergency team round the whole place. They were even surprised when they got to know they had issues in midair.  

Thank God nothing happened.

9 months Old Missing Child Toniloba, Found in Edo State

According to the story line, Toniloba Obafemi (9 months old baby) and his parents went to church, RCCG, Central parish, Wuse II, Abuja, on Sunday September 23, 2012. Toniloba went missing in church and was last seen with Comfort Amos, a member of the choir, and a known long-term member of the Church.

Toniloba and his kidnapper, Comfort Amos, were found in Benin after maximum investigations and tracking by family and friends with help from the police. Comfort's accomplice (both had jointly asked for well over N10million for the child) was caught in Auchi, Edo State and he led the police to Comfort who was with the child in Benin. 

The baby was found in good health.

Man shot and killed a masked intruder who turned out to be his own 15years teenage son

NEW FAIRFIELD, A popular fifth-grade teacher fatally shot a masked teenager in self-defense outside his neighbor's house during what appeared to be an attempted late-night burglary, then discovered the teen was his son, state police said.

Spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance said Friday that police are trying to determine if the gun used by Jeffrey Giuliano, the father, was registered. It will be at least a week before the probe is done.

Tyler Giuliano, described as an easygoing 15-year-old who enjoyed flying small planes, was shot at about 1 a.m. Thursday in New Fairfield, a lake community of about 14,000 along the New York line just north of Danbury.

"It's something out of a Hollywood script," said First Selectman John Hodge, who doesn't recall another killing in his eight years on the job. "You certainly don't expect it to happen in your own small hometown where there's very little crime."

Hong Kong - A Hong Kong tycoon who offered a $65m "marriage bounty" to any man who can win the heart of his lesbian daughter has been inundated with applications from around the globe, a report said on Friday.

Cecil Chao told the South China Morning Post newspaper that around 100 would-be suitors of his 33-year-old daughter, Gigi, had poured into his office since he went public with his offer on Wednesday.
"People send me letters, e-mails and faxes. I haven't had time to read them yet. I'll have to discuss it with Gigi," he was quoted as saying.

"There are some who said they don't want the money, only the chance to know my daughter."
One of the applicants, a Frenchman, wrote: "I'm really serious and [despite the fact] I am a man I think I can make this woman happy. I'm as soft as a woman."

Nigeria First Lady: Patience Jonathan Battling Parkinson's Disease

Nigeria’s First Lady, Patience Jonathan, is battling an onset of Parkinson’s disease that has complicated her recovery from a surgical procedure in Germany, several reliable sources have disclosed to Sahara Reporters.

Sahara Reporters broke the news that Mrs. Jonathan was flown to a hospital in Wiesbaden, Germany close to a month ago to undergo emergency treatment after a botched procedure in Dubai.

In interviews with three sources familiar with Mrs. Jonathan’s health status, Sahara Reporters learnt that the Nigerian president’s wife is beset by Parkinson’s disease, a degenerative syndrome. The disease is a progressive disorder of the nervous system. A medical source described it as “a fairly common disorder that occasions degeneration of the nervous system.” The source added that the disease leads to “progressive impairment and disorder of movement.” An online medical site notes that Parkinson’s “is characterized by progressive loss of muscle control, which leads to trembling of the limbs and head while at rest, stiffness, slowness, and impaired balance. As symptoms worsen, it may become difficult to walk, talk, and complete simple tasks.”

Saudi Arabia Deports 683 Female Pilgrims

The government of Saudi Arabia yesterday Thursday September 27th deported another batch of 512 pilgrims to Nigeria, a day after deporting 171 women. 

The Saudi government detained and eventually deported these women who went to the country for the 2012 Hajj, because they were not accompanied by approved male guardians which they say is against laid down rules of their kingdom. Over one thousand Nigerian female pilgrims were detained at the Abdul-Aziz International Airport and King Fahd Airport in Jeddah and Medina before they started gradually deporting them into Nigeria via Kano and Sokoto airports.

Court to have MTN CEO arrested

The Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Micheal Ikpoki is to be arrested on the orders of an Accra High Court for his consistent failure to appear in the court which is adjudicating a suit brought against the company. 

The court finds his behaviour and that of two other senior executives of the mobile telecommunications company, who have likewise failed to show up for the third time in court disrespectful and potentially contemptuous.

The other two are the Customer Relations Executive, Jemima Kotei, and Chief Technical Officer, Jon Hoffman.

The pictures were released by NEMA depicting the extent of the flooding in the city caused by the overflowing River Niger, which is nearly separating the Northern part of the country from the South. Many villages in Lokoja and Kogi will soon be wiped out if actions are not taken. The flooding has left many dead, thousands homeless, and movement from one place to the other impossible.

The flooding started about two weeks ago after Cameroon released water from the Lagdo Dam.

The minister of works said that the level of water seen in the past two weeks has not been seen in the last 100 years.

Niger Police Arrest 5 Suspected Boko Haram Members

Niger Republic has arrested five people near the Nigerian border suspected of belonging to the militant Nigerian Islamist group, Boko Haram, Niger security officials said on Tuesday.

The group has been blamed for more than 1,000 deaths in Nigeria since 2010. Observers said the suspects are using Niger as a transit route to link up with other militant groups like al-Qaeda in the Islamic Magreb, now controlling Northern Mali.

Cynthia's Osokogu's murder: court grants two suspects bail, remands driver

A Yaba Chief Magistrate’s Court yesterday Wednesday Sept 26th granted bail to two suspects arrested in connection with the alleged murder of Cynthia Osokogu. But the driver who was accused of driving the prime suspect to Cosmilla Hotel, FESTAC, was remanded in prison custody.

The suspects granted bail Nonso Ezike (22), who is the younger brother to Olisaeloka, one of the alleged killers, and Ezeaka Chinonso (27) were arrested by policemen at Area E for receiving and selling Cynthia’s BlackBerry phone.

Nonso’s lawyer, Mr. J. C Ngobili, told the court that the accused was a student of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, and prayed the court to grant him bail in liberal terms.

30 Million Naira Payment Tears Charly Boy and Nigerian Idol Apart

I hinted you all 2days ago about Charly Boy’s stand in the upcoming third season of Nigerian Idol. I sure some of you would be so inquisitive to know what exactly transpired between the Area Fada and the Idol producers

Here is just a hint of the whole issue. According to a source close to the reality showbiz “ the Area Fada is said to be purportedly asking for 30 million naira before he will be part of the judges for the upcoming Nigerian Idol.

The producers and Charly Boy have had several meetings on the issue but they all ended in stalemate.

The story line has it that the showbiz producers may soon be looking for a replacement for the Area Fada if the issue is not settled.

I hope they resolve it amicably.
