Naomi Campbell Robbed in Paris

 Supermodel Naomi Campbell suffered a torn ligament in her leg after she was violently attacked and robbed in Paris last month. Naomi was set upon by a group of thugs after she tried to hail a cab in the French capital in December.

A source told the New York Post: 'It was terrifying. Naomi believes the assailant had been watching her, casing her out, and waited for a moment to strike when she was alone. She was attacked in the street as she hailed a cab, and robbed.

'Her leg was injured as she was violently pushed to the ground. She was understandably very upset and shaken up.'

It is unclear what the thieves managed to take from Ms Campbell, but it has been suggested they were trying to steal valuable jewellery she was wearing at the time.

The 42-year-old's billionaire boyfriend, Vladimir Doronin, used his private jet to fly her to Vail, Colorado, where she was treated by J. Richard Steadman, one of the world's leading orthopedic surgeons. Continue after the cut...

Dana Airline Recommence Flight Operation Today

Exactly seven months after the plane crash that killed more than 160 people, Dana Air will recommence flight operations today January 4, 2013. The airline company's first flight is scheduled to take off from Abuja to Lagos by 7: 20 this morning.

EFCC seize former Bayelsa Governor Timipre Sylva's properties

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, released a statement yesterday saying they have seized 48 properties belonging to the former Governor of Bayelsa state, Mr. Timipre Sylva who is being prosecuted at a Federal High Court in Abuja for alleged misappropriation of N6.46 billion state funds when he was governor of the state.

“Assets belonging to the former governor against which a forfeiture order was obtained by the EFCC include a mansion at 3 River Niger Street, plot 3192 Cadastral zone AO, Maitama District Abuja; nine units (comprising six one bedroom and 3 two bedroom apartments) at 8 Sefadu Street Wuse zone 2, plot 262 Cadastral zone AO2, Wuse Abuja; 2 units duplexes at 5 Oguta Street, plot 906 Cadastral zone Wuse 11 Abuja. Nigerian student, Kevin Lakoju commits suicide in India

 

According to The Times of India, a 28-year-old Nigerian student allegedly committed suicide after jumping off the second floor of his rented accommodation in Sector 41. Police said preliminary probe suggests that the deceased, Kelvin Lakoju, aka 'Biggie' was in depression.

Kelvin had been living in Noida since 2009 and was pursuing a photography course from an institute in Film City. Cops said he jumped off around 11pm on Wednesday January 2nd.

"We have questioned some people and came to know that he was upset for some reasons," said deputy SP, S Chinappa.

"His friends said Kelvin was good at studies. Some personal problem could be the reason for committing suicide," said a senior police officer.

Some sources do however allege that Kevin was pushed, others say he was killed then pushed. The Nigerian Embassy and the deceased's family have been informed about the incident. It is hoped that Nigerian authorities in India will do some investigation into the alleged suicide, and hopefully confirm the suicide story, if indeed it was a suicide. May his soul rest in peace... Escort dies in Kogi State Speaker’s convoy’s auto crash

The convoy of Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Lawal Jimoh, was Monday involved in a horrific motor accident that killed a police escort.

Last week, Governor Idris Wada had an auto crash which claimed the life of his aide, Idris Mohammed.

The Speaker was said to be travelling to his Okene home town when a heavy duty truck ran into his escort van at Osara, along Okene road.

While the Speaker’s vehicle, along with others, were not affected by the accident, a police corporal Lamidi Akeem, who was in the affected escort car died, yesterday, at the hospital.

The Speaker’s Chief Press Secretary, Austin Akubo, confirmed the report and said the Speaker’s vehicle was not affected.

Nigerians to get ID number

In a move to curtail insurgency and other criminal challenges confronting the country, the National Population Commission, NPC, has commenced a comprehensive biometric capturing of all Nigerians, with a view to allocating every Nigerian number that would be associated with him or her from birth to death.

Chairman, NPC, Chief Festus Odimegwu, who disclosed this in Abuja, said the biometric capturing would also be applied to all people resident in Nigeria.

He said the biometric identification would help to streamline the avalanche of foreigners into the country and reduce the scope of kidnapping, armed robbery and Boko Haram sect’s activities in the country.

He said: “We are going to do for the first time in Nigeria a comprehensive biometric census. To record all Nigerians, their biometrics, give them one number that will follow them from birth to death.”

President Goodluck Jonathan says he had nothing to do with those Abuja posters

President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday January 2, 2013 rebutted having a hand in the campaign posters that engulfed the streets of Abuja on Tuesday January 1, 2013, publicizing his inclination to contest in the 2015 elections. His Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati said those behind the posters didn't do it with the president's permission.

“Those pasting the posters are trying to express their own view. The president had stated that he will talk about the presidency from 2014. Those doing these do not have the consent of the president. What is most important now is for the president to deliver on his electioneering promise to Nigerians and not to embark on the pasting of posters. It has not come from the president. Nigerians should take the president for his word and ignore any other information to the contrary.”

Federal Government to buy 10 million handsets worth N60billion for farmers

The Federal Government is to spend about N60 billion to procure 10million telephone handsets from China and the US for free distribution to rural farmers across the country.

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Mrs Ibukun Odusote, said the handsets would be made available to the farmers in the first quarter of this year.

She said the programme is aimed at establishing direct electronic communication between the government and farmers on agricultural matters, adding that the beneficiaries would be “women and youths” in rural areas.

“The handsets will be the tools with which to communicate with the farmers in the rural areas, deep deep into the interiors so that we will be able to communicate with them even in the hinterlands.”

Last photo taken of Bisi Komolafe in hospital before she died

The picture was taken some days before she died on Monday December 31, 2012. Bisi battled with an undisclosed ailment which kept her in and out of hospital for more than three (3) months.

A close friend of the actress confirmed that Bisi was a few weeks pregnant before the illness started, and that the pregnancy had to be terminated at the hospital to save her life when her condition got worse.

She will be buried on Friday January 4, 2013 in Ibadan. May her soul rest in perfect peace...Amen.

Ailing Governor of Taraba State Danbaba Suntai makes first public appearance

It’s being more than two months after his plane crashed close to Yola airport, injured Taraba State governor, Danbaba Suntai, has made his first public appearance though not physically but in a photo recently released by people in his administration which shows him carrying one of the twins his wife delivered on December 6, 2012.

The photo was taken in the restaurant of a German hospital where the governor has been receiving treatment for multiple fractures following the plane crash.

A number of people feel that the photos were released to show the governor was doing well and prevent his deputy, Garba Umara, who is now acting Governor, from being sworn in as governor after some media sites claimed Suntai had suffered severe brain damage following the crash.

The president visited Kogi State Governor, Idris Wada, at the Cedarcrest Hospital, Abuja two days back, where he is receiving treatments for the injuries he sustained in a car crash last Friday. Governor Wada's ADC, Idris Mohammed died in the accident and has since been buried.

Lagos State government yesterday December 31st gave actress Ngozi Nwosu N4.5million to help with the treatment she needs urgently. The actress has been battling with a kidney and heart-related ailment for a while now and needed N6million for treatment abroad. She raised N2million from well-meaning Nigerians few weeks back and needed N4million extra.

Victim of horrific Indian gang rape dies in Singapore hospital

Indian police today sealed off parts off New Delhi and appealed for calm after the death of a woman gang-raped on a bus in the city. The woman was flown to Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore for treatment 10 days after she was brutally attacked by six men who inserted an iron rod into her body on December 16.
