Joseph Yobo to sit on bench against Zambia
Super Eagles captain, Joseph Yobo, is not likely to
start when the Eagles confront the Chipolopolo of Zambia in their second match
of the African Cup of Nations, AFCON 2013.
An official of the team told Premium Times at the
Eagles base in Nelspruit that Kenneth Omeruo is likely to be paired with
Godffrey Oboabona in the central defense.
The decision of the Eagles technical team to bench
the team captain may not be unassociated with his woeful performance in
Nigeria’s first match against Burkina Faso.
The match is expected to kick off at 5:00 p.m.

Police in Texas say a husband shot and killed his
estranged wife before killing himself at his daughter’s sweet 16 birthday
party.
An argument turned the celebration into a tragedy as
Kelly Suckla, 43, allegedly killed Kristi Suckla, 44, near the front door of
her parents’ home in Grapevine on Saturday night, WFAA reported.
Kristi moved with her daughter and 21-year-old son
into her parents’ home about two months ago, the Dallas Morning News reported.

Lagos Man Urinated Inside a Pot of Soup After a Woman Refused to Sell Him Food
38-year old Gatankowa market trader Taofeeq Shobulo
has been arrested and sentenced with 6 months of imprisonment for urinating in
a pot of soup on January 17, 2012.
The suspect pleaded guilty to the charge against him
and he was sentenced by an Senior Magistrate Court in Ojokoro on Tuesday,
January 23rd.
According to his prosecutor, Lugard Ahonle, the
convict asked a food vendor named Olayiwola Olayemisi to sell food to him but
the latter refused because it was Shobulo’s habit to ask for food and leave
without paying.
While the vendor was not paying attention to the pot

US, UK, Canada, and Germany Embassies Advised Their Citizens Not to Travel to Nigeria
January 23, 2013 – US, UK, Canada, and Germany
embassies issued travel warnings to their citizens and told them not to travel
to Nigeria.
The said countries warned their citizens to avoid
traveling to Nigeria anytime soon because of the possible attacks by some
Islamic terrorists who sympathize the Malian rebels.
However, the Canadian embassy made some exceptions.
They advised their citizens to avoid having non-essential travels to Nigeria
except to the following locations:
Abuja
Cross River
Lagos

Woman Drags Husband to Court for Failing to Satisfy Her in Bed
Mrs. Hassana Sunday, a 38-year-old petty trader, has
dragged her husband, Mr Jiba Sunday, to a Garki Customary Court in Abuja “for
not performing his conjugal duties.”
Hassana told the court that her husband had failed
to perform his duty as her lawfully wedded husband. According to her, “My
husband has abandoned me for over four years; he has not been touching me,” she
told the court.
She said her husband had also neglected the welfare
of their children and of the entire family: “I have been the only one catering
for the children. My husband does not care to know if the children are going to
school or not… He does not even ask whether they feed or not. He has

“I had to kill the boy” - Kidnapper arrested for strangling 7-year-old kid to death

A suspected kidnapper, Patrick Onyeka, was on
Tuesday paraded by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly kidnapping and
murdering a seven-year-old boy, identified simply as Ayuba.
Onyeka, a part time footballer and marketer of
aluminum frames, was until his arrest last Thursday, living with his elder
brother at Mumako Estate, Ikotun.
Onyeka’s brother’s residence shared a fence with
that of Ayuba’s parents.
On January 12, Ayuba was said to have innocently walked
into the compound where Onyeka lived. Unknown to little boy’s parents and other neighbours, Onyeka

killed 18 people at a local market in Damboa, Borno South, the Islamist sect
members laid siege on the state capital, Maiduguri, yesterday, murdering 12

in the bomb explosion and gun battle between security forces and the sect in
the metropolis yesterday.
In what appeared like a day of rage, the gunmen went
on a killing spree through coordinated attacks in different parts of the

dead at London Ciki, a volatile ward in the metropolis while another five,
including a director in the state Ministry of Animal and Fisheries, one Zakka,

of Horror movie, a seven-month pregnant woman was recently burnt to death in
Umuekechi village, Umuekwunne community in Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area of
Imo State. It was learnt that she was doused with fuel and set ablaze by her
brother-in-law. Reason? The woman was said to have poured water on the man’s
dog.
Daily Sun gathered that at about mid-day on Wednesday
last week, Mrs. Uloma Njoku had served her three children their lunch and
continued with her laundry at the backyard. But while the children were eating
in the family’s compound, the dog of her brother-in-law, Chibueze, allegedly
strayed to where they were eating. The dog was said to have dipped its mouth
into their cup of water. One of the children then allegedly reported the

Former Botswana president, Felix Mogae, slams Nigeria on corruption, impunity

In remarks indicting of the Nigerian government,
former President of Botswana, Festus Mogae, on Wednesday delivered stinging
condemnations of Nigeria’s soaring corruption record, and the failure of the
authorities and the populace to reverse the tide.
Mr. Mogae spoke at the 10th Daily Trust Dialogue,
organized by Media Trust Limited in Abuja with the theme, “Nation Building:
Challenges and Reality.”
Mr. Mogae said Nigeria had developed tremendously
over the years but more needed to be done to attain its full potential. He
challenged Nigerians to do all that is necessary to halt corruption in the

Mystery of the floating corpses in Anambra State

If there are any doubts that Nigeria is a country in
which horror walks on four legs, and life has no value at all, the latest
report of 18 male corpses found floating in Ezu River in the border between
Enugu and Anambra States, last Saturday, should lay those doubts to rest.
The discovery of the corpses by fishermen in the
part of the river at Amansea, in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra
State, is many notches higher the regular horror stories emerging from
different parts of the country.
This is not like the case of four young students
killed by a baying mob that joined the list of atrocities in Nigeria, last
year. It is different from the case of a young woman who simply went to the
house of her married lover and strangled his four children to death, that was

18 hunters killed in Borno

The Borno Police Command on Tuesday confirmed that
gunmen killed 18 local hunters in Damboa, headquarters of Damboa Local
Government Area of the state.
Mr Gideon Jibrin, the spokesman of the command, said
in a text message to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri, that he got
news of the incident.
“Yes, I heard information about the killings but I
do not have the details. I do not even know how many people were involved. I
promise to let you know as soon as I get the details,” Jibrin said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered that the
gunmen had on Monday, shot dead the hunters while they were transacting

Purity Okojie. Purity was born on Sunday December 30, 2012. Mercy is due back

and plans to immediately hit a movie set once she returns to Nigeria.

The hospital confirmed that the couple’s first child
weighed approximately 6lbs. 6 ounces, and that both mother and child are in

Bayelsa speaker’s mother regains freedom from her kidnappers
The 78-year-old mother of Speaker of Bayelsa House
of Assembly, Mr. Kombowei Benson, has been released days after she was
kidnapped in her country home of Korokorosei in Southern Ijaw Local Government
Area of Bayelsa State by gunmen in two speed boats. Madam Betinah Okunwa Benson
was freed around 10pm on Monday night. She returned to her family hale and
hearty.

Dr Tunde Soleye confirms his marriage to Nike Oshinowo has ended
After six years of marital bliss, former beauty
queen Nike Oshinowo has packed out of her matrimonial home. Dr Tunde Soleye
confirmed it in an interview with Encomium magazine. He said:
“We are no longer living together. Nike and I have
sent out a joint statement on the issue. It is simple and clean. This is not a
scandal. We had three options, the best of which is to tell the world the truth
that we now live apart. We have been living apart for a couple of months now.
We see occasionally. She calls me when she wants and I speak with her too. There's no fight. I
have been to where she lives. We are still friends. We are going through a
difficult time and we will come out of it.”
Although, Nike Oshinowo moved out of Dr Soleye's
Lekki home mid last year and even when they stepped out together at Folorunsho
Alakija's thanksgiving party in September 2012, they were already living apart.
Nike now lives in VI, while Dr Soleye has moved to Parkview Estate, Ikoyi.

Man stabs ex-girlfriend to death for dumping him

The Aleato family has been thrown into sorrow following
the murder of their 26-year-old daughter, Onyinyechukwu, last Saturday by her
ex-boyfriend in Lagos.
The deceased, a sales girl at Alaba International
market, Ojo, was reportedly trailed by her ex-boyfriend, Osita Amanunwa from
her Iba new site abode, to Ajangbadi area of Lagos, where she had gone to visit
a friend.
Crime Alert gathered that the late Onyin, as she was
fondly called, sat outside her host’s compound, exchanging banters, without the
slightest inkling that death lurked at the corner.
Eye witnesses said she turned and suddenly, the
smile on her face disappeared. And when
her host turned to the direction of her
gaze, they discovered that her ex
stood opposite them.
Her host who spoke on condition of anonymity, told
crime Alert that: “ she greeted him but he hissed and walked away. He later
