Governor Fashola vows to deal with owner of stored fire crackers
Lagos state Governor, Babatunde Fashola, yesterday
visited the site of the Boxing Day firecracker explosion that razed about 15
buildings and killed an 11 year old boy.
Fashola said he plans to punish the owner of the store on Oko Awo street
where the fire crackers were stored.
“In order to make quick business, we have lost a
life, we lost property and all of us are in danger. All of these items are
under one form of prohibition or the other and we have men and women at our
various entry and exit points. How did they get in? How did they enter? Who
imported them and who cleared them? Who approved them to come in. Those are
very serious issues we must also ask ourselves" Fashola said

the use of fire crackers.
Odemwingie may face disciplinary actions for comments on Twitter
Osaze Odemwingie slammed out at Coach Stephen Keshi
and members of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) on his twitter page recently
for not being included in the African Nations Cup squad. (If you missed it, read it here)
A top NFF official told reporters this week that
Osaze would not be allowed to go unpunished for the comments he made on
Twitter. He said the case will be referred to the federation's disciplinary
committee to investigate and make recommendations to the executive committee
for the next line of action. The NFF rep said they plan to make a statement
with the action they will take against Osaze.
In the meantime, Osaze has concluded and accepted
that his days with Super Eagles are over
“It is clear now that my days with the Super Eagles
are over as I expected to be left out of the ANC squad because we have had a
few issues before. I played a very good 10 years from 2002 to 2012 but I don't
want to be with a coach who doesn’t want me.I still love my country and care
about the football but I already wasn't feeling the way I would have liked to
feel. Last month I spoke with Keshi because I didn’t play in a few games with
the national team and he said my body language didn't show that I wanted to
play for the team but body language for the Nigerian coach is that you have to
be calling him all the time and greeting him but for me football is an official
thing.” Osaze said

Via The Nation
President Goodluck Jonathan has stepped into the row sparked by the N9billion variation on the contract sum for the new official residence of Vice President Namadi Sambo.
President Goodluck Jonathan has stepped into the row sparked by the N9billion variation on the contract sum for the new official residence of Vice President Namadi Sambo.
The project was originally planned to cost
N7billion.
A request for the approval of the National Assembly
for an additional N9billion for the purpose of providing furniture, fence, two
protocol guest houses, a banquet hall and security gadgets has provoked outrage
across the country.
President Jonathan is said to be dismayed by the
controversy trailing the request and asked to be briefed by Vice President
Sambo on the issue.
The Senate Committee on Federal Capital Territory
has already written to Julius Berger Nigeria Limited, which is constructing the
mansion, to justify the increase in contract sum.
During an inspection visit to the site by the Senate
Committee, the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority
(FCDA), Adamu Ismail had said the project was awarded in 2009 at the cost of
N7billion.
He said the additional N9 billion was required to
provide furniture, fencing, two additional protocol guest houses, a banquet
hall and other security gadgets.
Ismail said the new proposal was not included in the
original scope of work being handled by Julius Berger. Continue after the cut...
