Actress Genevieve Nnaji dropped from Chimamanda Adichie's ‘Half of a Yellow Sun’ movie

Genevieve Nnaji's small part in the big screen adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s novel “Half of a Yellow Sun” has been cut out from the finished film. It wasn't just Genevieve's scenes that were cut from the movie, a few other characters from the book didn't appear in the movie. Sources in the know say the producers may have cut Genevieve from the movie because her character wasn't important to the story and was dragging the storyline unnecessarily. Other characters didn't appear because there was not much time to tell everyone's story. Genny may appear in a scene or two but it will be very insignificant. Genevieve played the role of Ms Adebayo, a professor who develops a flirtatious relationship with her colleague Mr Odenigbo, played by Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Half of a Yellow Sun features Chiwetel Ejiofor, Dominic Cooper, Anika Noni Rose and Thandie Newton. Produced by Andrea Calderwood and directed by Biyi Bandele. The book centers on the Nigerian civil war and was published in 2006.

French police dismantle Nigerian prostitution ring

French police have arrested seven people suspected of procuring Nigerian prostitutes who worked across France, judicial sources said Friday.

The five men, including the suspected ringleader, and two women raked in some 90,000 euros ($120,000) a month from the illicit business, the sources said.

An investigation begun in October 2011 established that the ringleader’s companion, one of the two women arrested, recruited the women in Nigeria.

Among the five others arrested was the sister of the suspected ringleader and her husband.

The seven, who face charges of human trafficking and “aggravated” procuring of prostitutes, appeared before an investigating magistrate on Friday. (Culled from Vanguard)

20-Year-Old Nigerian Girl Attacked With Acid in London

A Nigerian girl, Naomi Oni was scarred for life when a mysterious figure wearing a muslim niqab threw acid in her face as she walked home from work. She has no idea who did this to her and has spent the past month having skin grafts and almost went blind, although she has now recovered her vision in her left eye and has partial sight in her right.

To make matters worse, she is the sole carer for her disabled mother Marian Yalekhue who is 52. She told her story;

Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State yesterday gave an assurance to Nigerians that ailing Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State, who has been hospitalised in London since September 2012, would return to the country in the next two weeks.

Peter Odemwingie hits back at West Brom over QPR transfer fiasco

Peter Odemwingie has hit back at West Bromwich Albion after his proposed move to Queens Park Rangers fell through on the final day of the transfer window.

The striker accused the club of reneging on a gentleman's agreement to let him sign for the west London club, saying he believed West Brom's technical director, Dan Ashworth, had sanctioned the move. He also claimed Albion had signed him from Lokomotiv Moscow without permission.

Appeal Court affirms death sentence on Rev. King

A Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos Today affirmed the conviction and death sentence of Chukwuemeka Ezeugo a.k.a REV KING on charges of attempted murder and murder.

A panel of judges at the court said the lower court acted in the interest of justice by sentencing the preacher to death.

Ezeugo was convicted and sentenced to death by hanging on January 11, 2007, for the alleged murder of a church member, Ann Uzoh.

Ezeugo, however pleaded with the Court of Appeal, Lagos to quash the death sentence passed on him by Justice Joseph Oyewole of an Ikeja High Court in November 2012.

He committed the offence as the General-Overseer of the Christian Praying Assembly.

Dead Yoruba actor Lekinson rises again

Lekan Oladapo a.k.a. Giorgio Lekinson, a foundation member of the Yoruba genre of Nigerian home videos on Wednesday, January 26, 2012 was announced to have had his last breath due to cancer of the lung ailment he battled with for years before he eventually lost out. Interestingly, Lekinson’s disappearance from the movie scene before he died early last year remains the reason some movie buffs still find it hard to believe that he’s dead!

2 brothers (44 and 33) kidnap their 74-year old father, demand N5 million ransom

Two suspected children from hell have been arrested in Anambra State for allegedly kidnapping their father. The two brothers, Ifeanyi and Obinna, aged 44 and 33 respectively, were arrested by the State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), led by Supol James Nwafor, after they were implicated in the alleged abduction of their father, Chief Mike Onwukamuche.

The two sons were said to have demanded for N5 million ransom from their father. According to investigation, the 74-year-old victim was abducted in Ojota and taken to Obosi and was allegedly held hostage for one week by the suspects. Nawaooo! Only in Nigeria... Read more after the cut...

Lawmakers Criticise N4B Proposed for First Lady’s Building

Described as scandalous and illegal the sum of N4 billion proposed in the budget of the Federal Capital Territory for the construction of the First Lady’s Mission Building.

The federal lawmakers voiced their disapproval when they considered the FCT’s budget proposal of N253 billion.

They also criticised the proposal of N150 million for the renovation of the Vice President’s guest house in Asokoro, five billion naira to rehabilitate commercial sex workers and the destitute and seven billion naira for the construction of two city gates in the FCT.

When the budget proposal was presented for approval in the Senate, the lawmakers voiced concern over the current state of the capital city and wondered what exactly the FCT administration has done with previous allocations. Read more after the cut...

Three Students Killed by Drunk Lecturer in Kogi State

A Kogi State Polytechnic lecturer who was alleged to have driven under the influence of alcohol on Monday, had reported crushed three student of the school to death.

The lecturer who according to eye witnesses was on high speed knocked down one Miss Taiwo Edilola Omolola, a HND 1 student as she was about to board a commercial motorcycle from the campus and two others waiting to board a cab.

According to the eye witness, the slain student got stock under the lecturer’s car wheel as he dragged her along the expressway.

Miss Taiwo’s disfigured body was later pulled out.

In an attempt to escape being killed by the angry mob, he hit and killed two other students who were waiting to board a cab at the opposite direction.

However, the State Police Spokesperson, ASP Ajayi Akansanmi, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), said he was yet to confirm the incident.

A 27-year-old clerical officer of the Delta State University, DELSU, Abraka, one David Wonder Erhirhie has been sentenced to death by an Orerokpe high court in the State, having found him guilty of killing a female student, Princess Chinoso Ijezie who was seeking for admission at the University sometime in 2009.

Three men was arrested after molesting and impregnating a 13-year-old girl

The Police authorities in Lagos arrested a married man and two teenage boys after they admitted molesting and impregnated a 13-year-old girl.

In a news report, Lagos Makinde Division policemen have arrested Emenuwa Achonam, Dowin Udoh, 22; and Emenike Orji, 20 for allegedly molesting a Junior-Secondary School student last August inside the suspect’s apartment in Mafoluku area of Oshidi.

The three were arrested after the teenage girl was rushed to the hospital and was confirmed that she was pregnant.

Two 3 year olds kidnapped from their home in Ketu

The kidnapping of two toddlers -  Toheeb Adedokun and Falilu Tajudeen - has thrown Taike Street, Ketu Lagos into confusion.

The two boys have some things in common. They are three-years-old and live in the same compound at number 18.

Toheeb and Falilu, who are the youngest in the house were kidnapped on Friday, and since then, nothing had been heard of them.

France returns smuggled Nok artifacts to Nigeria

France has returned to Nigeria five ancient terracotta sculptures smuggled out of the country in 2010.

The artifacts, of Nok origin, were found in the luggage of French citizen at a Paris airport.

Their exact value has not been disclosed, but they are believed to date back more than 3,000 years.

Nigeria's tourism minister told the BBC it was a "big achievement" in the country's campaign to recover its lost treasures from around the world.

CAN blasts El-Rufai over alleged comment on Jesus Christ

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Wednesday, described recent statement linked to former Federal Capital Territory Minister, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, on Jesus Christ, as not only reckless but also indicative of deep-seated moral bankruptcy.

El-Rufai had tweeted on January 28 that “if Jesus criticizes Jonathan’s government, Maku, Abati or Okupe will say that he slept with Mary Magdalene”.

Court asks Dr Soleye to pay ex-wife N45million divorce settlement

Encomium magazine is reporting that Nike Oshinowo's estranged husband, Dr Tunde Soleye has been asked by a Lagos High Court to give his ex-wife Dr Mrs Funmilayo Soleye 100, 000 pounds and N20million as divorce settlement, and also relinquish their London home to her.

Mrs Funmi Soleye filed for divorce after her husband of 28 years and father of her three children, Tunde Soleye married former beauty queen, Nike Oshinowo traditionally. The court did not only grant Mrs Soleye divorce request, they also asked Nike Oshinowo to compensate her by paying her N5million for wrecking her marriage and causing her pain. David Beckham trains with Arsenal

Arsenal Manager, Arsene Wenger, has announced that David Beckham is training with Arsenal at their Hertfordshire training base but he won't be signing with the club.

The 37 year old former England captain is currently without a club after leaving LA Galaxy last year.

"He called me," Wenger said. "He has asked to come here and to work on his fitness. He has not done anything for a long, long time. It's purely for fitness. There's no speculation about signing or anything."
