Globacom has been named the Best Telecoms Company of
the Year for its innovation, resilience and pocket-friendly products.
Globacom was honoured at the Excellence Awards 2013
event held in Lagos and attended by dignitaries, including the Speaker of the
Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Adeyemi Ikuforiji, a statement from the firm
on Monday indicated.
The organisers, the statement added, described
Globacom as the catalyst which triggered the revolution in the Nigerian
telecoms sector, and according to the citation, “Globacom has been in the
forefront of the pocket-friendly tariff revolution and rural penetration of
telecommunications since its inception in 2003.”
The network was also commended for pioneering
several technological innovations like Magic Plus, Blackberry, Vehicle
Tracking, GPRS, MultiMedia Messaging Service, among others. Globacom, it was
noted, had contributed a lot more than telecoms to the Nigerian society by its
economic empowerment schemes aimed at poverty alleviation across the country
and its sponsorship of sports in the country.
