The North,
under the aegis of the Arewa Consultative Forum, was angry on Thursday that President Goodluck Jonathan rejected calls on him to grant members of the
dreaded Islamist sect, Boko Haram total amnesty for them to ceasefire in their
four-year old terror against the state.
The ACF, rising from an emergency meeting in
Kaduna, expressed concern over the
security challenges across the country.
The organisation said to avert the looming danger
and the total collapse of its economy,
its patrons, comprising former
heads of state(military and civilians) and other leaders from the region, must
come together to tackle the insecurity in the North.
See the rest after the cut...
The ACF, in a communiqué signed by its Publicity
Secretary, Anthony Sani, said, “Arewa Consultative Forum held an emergency
Joint Meeting of Board of Trustees and National Executive Committee members on
March 27, 2013,in its Conference Hall, Kaduna. The meeting was well attended,
and chaired by Alhaji Aliko Mohammed, Dan Iya Misau.
“The deliberations of the meeting centered mainly on
the escalating security challenges across some parts of the North and the
increasing toll in human lives and properties; and resolved that the following
statement be issued:
“The emergency joint meeting felt very concerned
about the seeming inability of the authority to bring the unfortunate situation
under control, especially the total rejection of calls for amnesty to the
insurgents without offering any viable alternative course of action.
“ACF, therefore, decided that all its patrons and
all northern leaders across faiths and irrespective of political divides must
come together and live up their collective security challenges that have become
serious threats to the socio economic and political development of not only the
North but also of the entire nation.” (Punch)
