Adamawa - Mubi. The Joint Task Force, JTF Sunday night raided the
main hide out of the suspected Boko Haram terrorists in Mubi the commercial
nerve centre of Adamawa State where 156 suspected members of the dreaded group
were arrested.
Addressing newsmen shortly after inspecting the compound where the
raid took place, Commander of the 23rd Armored Brigade, Nigerian Army Yola,
Brigadier General John Nwaoga hinted the operation was sequel to the recent
clandestine activities and destruction of GSM masts in Mubi by the suspected
terrorists.
Brigadier General Nwaoga, who was accompanied by the Adamawa
Police Commissioner Mr. Godffrey Okeke and the State Director of SSS said the
raid has really helped the military intelligence to unravel the mystery behind
the protracted wave of shooting and bomb attacks in Mubi Town.
Among items recovered from the raid, code named Operation restore
sanity” are ready to us improved explosive device, chemicals, arms and
ammunitions, over 500 dagger knives, 9 AK47 assault riffles, locally made
pistols, rocket launchers among others.
“Based on intelligence report, a combined team of the JTF isolated
the area, cordoned it and made sure that innocent and law abiding citizens were
not hurt” Brigadier General Nwaoga stated.
At the military base housing the FRSC training school Mubi, 156
suspects were arraigned including 6 females and 5 children who were resaved.
However, the Brigade Commander said the operating is “sweeping”
and assured that those arrested will be decisively screamed in other to free
innocent ones.
He disclosed that a member of the notorious group was gunned down
as they engaged the JTF in a gun duel before they were over powered.
Nwaoga however expressed dismay over what he described as
“non-cooperative attitude’ of people in relation to the fight against
terrorism.
He therefore called on traditional rulers, village heads, and
residents to report to security agents unidentified persons residing in their
midst.
“By availing to us of useful information, concerning unknown faces
and suspicious movements in their midst, we assured that; we will act rapidly
to clear out terrorists amongst us” Nwaoga assured.
He commended the state government for granting this 24hrs curfew
which enabled the JTF to carry the successful operation.
Mubi, which is the commercial nerve center of Adamawa State and
the major link between the state and the Cameroun Republic has being in the center
of terrorists attack in the last one and half years.
Score of people have been killed; the latest victim was the
chairman of Maiha local government council in the area who are gunned down a
few days ago and the destruction of GSM masts.
A 24 hours curfew is currently imposed on the area which share
common border with Borno and parts of Yobe states.
