NCC Bans all Telecoms Promos and Lotteries with Immediate Effect

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) yesterday November 12th banned all promotions and lotteries being run by telecoms companies with immediate effect. This statement was released yesterday through the Director, Public Affairs Tony Ojobo.  Read the state below:

The Commission has, in recent times been inundated with several complaints from consumers, Industry Stakeholders against the various promotions offered by Telecommunications Operators.

Why I Left Banking Industry to Become Truck Driver with Dangote - Ph.D Holder

To differentiate the graduate truck drivers from the conventional trailer drivers, instructors at the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria call them logistics assistants. Most of the graduates who applied to work as truck drivers with the Dangote Group of Companies qualified as engineers, architects, chemists, mathematicians, just but to mention a few. This is why, perhaps, the NITT instructors quickly attempted to professionalise the Graduate Truck Driving Scheme with the alias of Logistics Assistants.

Out of the about 13,000 graduates reported to have applied to be employed as truck drivers, some of them hold Ph.D degrees. Others had obtained masters degrees in different fields while thousands are graduates of different universities, polytechnics, federal colleges of education and other tertiary institutions with qualifications that cut across engineering, sciences, social sciences and arts.

The lucky graduates among the army of the applicants were only 2,000. These 2,000 graduates are scheduled to undergo a training programme in batches at the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria, which would be run in four years. The about 100 pioneer batch of the graduate-drivers have already commenced a three-month training at the NITT. Read more after the cut

Tumu Police Nab Ayariga Trailers

According to Ghana news online, The Tumu police last Saturday night arrested four suspected armed robbers who trailed the convoy of the presidential candidate of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Mr Hassan Ayariga.

The four, who were using a Mitsubishi Pajero vehicle with registration number GR 8849 R, had in their vehicle a fully loaded pump action gun and 10 cartridges.

Other items found in the car were, two screw drivers, GH¢1,170 cash, dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, pictures, a Ghanaian passport belonging to one of the suspects, six mobile phones, a laptop and bank leaflets.

The suspects, who are currently in the custody of the police, have been identified as Bawimuah Dajan, Sambo Fulani, Akwasi Mensah and Paul Michael. Continue after the cut:

Salawa Abeni's daughter, Candy, begins reality show - 'Opolo Orin'

Salawa Abeni's 30 year old daughter, Okiki Ilori, popularly known as Candy Fabulous is set to begin shoot on her reality show titled 'Opolo Orin', which will be the first indigenous Yoruba reality based singing competition.

Opolo Orin will showcase talent in Waka, Fuji, Juju and Apala and is the brainchild of Candiva Signature, an entertainment company owned by Candy. Candy explains what inspired the talent show

"I saw an audition from Project Fame Ibadan, and an old man didn't make the cut because he sang in Yoruba language, and honestly he was very talented, and that gave me this idea, so I started working on it'

The reality show will kick off before the end of the year and will feature Dele Abiodun, KWAM 1, 9ice, Laolu Akins, King Sunny Ade, Sir Shina Peters as judges and guest judges.

Policemen shoot robbed banker, security guard in Lagos

An employee of Access Bank Plc, Mr. Femi Badejo, and his security guard, Joshua Moses, were shot by policemen in Lagos on Saturday after they responded to a distress call about a robbery at the banker’s home in Ikota area of the state.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the robbers had attacked Badejo and his neighbours around 4am and one of the neighbours made a distress call to the police, but by the time the policemen arrived about an hour later, the robbers had fled.

Badejo said he and his neighbours were in the compound discussing what had transpired when the policemen stormed the building and started shooting sporadically.

He is currently receiving treatment at St. Nicholas Hospital, Lagos Island.

Woman Throws Her 5 Month Old Baby Inside Well in Oyo State

According to Nigeria Tribune, A 20-year-old woman, Ganiyat Salawudeen, is currently in police custody after she was arrested for throwing her five-month-old baby inside a well, where she was residing in her mother’s family house at Alagolo area, Oja Oba, Ibadan

Nigerian tribune reports that, Ganiyat threw the baby, whose name was given as Timothy Odugbemi, into the well at about 8.30p.m on Monday November 5, after which she raised the alarm that she could not find her baby.

After a search by family members and neighbours, which extended till the following morning, Ganiyat was reported to have confessed to throwing the baby inside the well after much prodding. People were said to have rushed towards the well to see if it was true and it was a shocked crowd which beheld the still body of the tot when he was brought out of the well.
